Watersports

Taking part in watersports is a great way to take advantage of the sunny weather and the bath-like sea temperatures of Brunei. As discussed elsewhere on this site, learning to scuba dive or enhancing your diving skills is a popular pastime amongst the expat community.

Many people also enjoy snorkeling off the coast of Serasa at Pelong Rocks, where you can find beautiful reefs of colourful corals, clownfish, lobsters, giant clams, pipefish, lionfish, scorpionfish, juvenile barracudas, cuttlefish, and stingrays. Oceanic Quest and Poni Divers offer snorkeling trips with various prices and add ons.

Poni Divers have many options for spending time on the water, from kayaking to jetskiing and wakeboarding. They often offer deals for groups and regularly have promotions for particular packages.

River Tubing is another popular water activity. You can signing up with Trandie, Freme Rainforest Lodge or Sumbiling Eco Village to tube down the calm and steady Temburong River. You can also try your hand at White Water Rafting and canoeing with Trandie.

The Royal Brunei Yacht Club at Serasa has regular sailing competitions, and also offers lessons with RYA qualified instructors for both adults and children.

Perhaps not strictly a watersport, many members of Loan Service enjoy a spot of fishing. Bruneians love to fish despite the healthy population of crocodiles. You do not need a fishing licence to fish in Brunei. Fishing into the sea directly off breakwaters at Jerudong and Serasa is common, as well as in rivers and lakes. Kayak fishing is mainly centred around Serasa and it is easy to charter a boat from Poni Divers. Multiple boat owners from the water village will also take you out if you ask down at the riverfront at Bandar.
