Swimming
As with gym access, Service Personnel can use the pools on RBAF bases. Unfortunately our Loan Service families do not have access at this time.
For serious swimmers there is only one Olympic sized swimming pool in Brunei, the National Swimming Pool Complex. It is cheap to use, clean and is often very quiet.
The Empire Country Club has an indoor lap pool for members. The Empire Hotel also has a large outdoor leisure pool with a children’s area and space for kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding. You don’t have to be a member to visit and current rates are $15 per family per day.
The Royal Brunei Yacht Club in Serasa has a small pool for socialising and sunbathing.
Children who attend JIS will have regular swim sessions as part of PE, and they can also select swimming as part of their extra curricular activities. Swimming lessons for the public are also available from Hammerheads Swim School in ISB, after school and at weekends. They have a ‘learn to swim’ programme for children and an adults only session.
Peak Performance has an outdoor lap pool and swimming lessons are available.
The Panaga Club in Seria, offers a leisure and lap pool, access to a lovely beach and restaurant on site. You don’t have to be a member to visit and current rates are $15 per family per day.
Bruneians generally don’t go swimming in the sea, but the beaches are very popular in the evening time around sunset.
Some loan service people do swim in the open water. If you choose to do this, be aware that you are sharing the water with crocodiles and sea snakes, and take appropriate precautions.
On public beaches, please wear modest dress.
