Leave Entitlement

Your leave entitlement starts from the day of arrival in theatre. You JPA leave balance will be set to zero regardless of circumstances.

Annual Leave: 42 calendar days and 3 long weekends (Not to be confused as 51 days) per 12 month period. There are some nuances with the RBAF leave system and it will take some getting used to. In addition to submitting an RBAF leave application all Personnel are to complete and submit JS Form JPA R001 to the office 2- 6 weeks prior to departing on leave. Leave can be carried forward with RBAF CoC agreement. All Bruneian annual leave must be used prior to End of Assignment.

Long Weekends: 3 Long Weekends per year, to be used at least 3 months apart where possible. These cannot be carried forward.

Public Holidays: There are up to 15 public holidays in Brunei each year (moon state dependant).

Embarkation Leave: Part of the MOU agreement, 14 calendar days on arrival. There will be key appointments during embarkation leave however, such as initial admin, IC Card banking and Immigration.

End of Tour Leave: 14 calendar days relocation leave plus Sultans leave of one day for each month, over 6 months served in Brunei (continuous). This is combined with unused Annual Leave up to a combined maximum of 50 continuous calendar days.

Compassionate Leave: As per UK service regulations. Not deducted from annual entitlement unless exceeds 14 days. Personnel should ensure that their family around the world have downloaded the JCCC Virtual Contact Card and have your service number and unit details in case of serious illness/incapacitation.

Paternity Leave: RBAF have no provision however is often granted as two weeks compassionate leave by the SBLSO, subject to local chain of command approval.

Resettlement: There is no entitlement to use Graduated Resettlement Time whilst on Loan Service.

Travel:

This region offers the opportunity for travel, by road, air and sea. All leave and travel are to be notified to your RBAF HR team and a JPA R001 (Leave app) into SA LST. You must check FCDO advice prior to arranging travel and prior to the journey commencement. Examples of popular travel destinations are below:

  • Labuan Malaysia (MDAC) - via Ferry from Labuan. Total journey time 2 hours

  • Kucing Malaysia (MDAC) - via direct flight from Brunei International. Total journey time 30 mins

  • Miri Malaysia (MDAC) - via road - 3 - 6 hours.

  • Kota Kinabalu (MDAC) - via direct flight or road. Flight 40 mins, Road 6 -8 hrs

  • Singapore (My ICA) and Kuala Lumpur (MDAC) - via direct flight 1hr 50

  • Vietnam via direct flight to Ho Chi Min (Saigon) 2hr 10

  • Cambodia (Entry and Visa) via flight (Singapore or Miri) 4hrs

There are of course many more wonderful places to visit such as Japan, Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, all are accessible but require planning and some countries require J2 briefs (Taiwan), some have complete leisure travel ban (Hong Kong). Personnel planning overseas travel should review JSP 440 leaflet 2C(Modnet) for advice regarding travel to Restricted countries (Modnet), must have a OTNAF form (Modnet) completed.

Important:

  • Prior to returning to Brunei (each time) you must ensure you complete your INRS e-arrival, every time.

  • You must inform SA LST of any independent travel, any dependents absence from the LOA location of over 90 accumulative (not consecutive) days in a 12 month period will trigger a small abatement on the married accompanied LOA rate.

  • All travel must be reported to ensure accountability during natural disasters and conflicts, to enable NEO and foreign offices to coordinate evacuation and aide reporting.

Local Leave Grant:

Payable every 12 months, starting from date of arrival in Brunei.  You cannot claim the allowance in your first 6 months or last 3 months service in Brunei.  Details of this grant, its rates and the claims process are available from the SA Fin LS.

Get You Home Overseas:

All SP and their accompanied family members are entitled to a return flight once per year at public expense.
