Jungle Hiking

A very popular hobby in Brunei, hiking or trail running in the rainforest is a great way to meet friends and keep fit. You will also have the opportunity to meet some of our local wildlife!

You will find that trails are very well kept if they are supported by their local kampong. On occasion you may find a trail that has not been cut back for a while and difficult to navigate. All Trails is a great way to discover new trails, navigate and read recent reviews to see what terrain you are likely to find.

There are trails for all levels of fitness, so don’t be intimidated if it is your first time hiking. You will find a willing guide from Loan Service to accompany you if it’s your first time in the jungle. Many trails are well signposted and are great fun for a whole family.

Hashing is a great way to meet new people while getting some exercise. There are several recognised Hashing groups offering men’s only, ladies only, mixed hash and children’s sessions. Lots of opportunities for adventure and new experiences!

Ask around for recommendations, new trails are cut every week!

Please take normal hiking precautions when in the jungle; stay on the trail, wear sunscreen and insect repellent. Be aware of wildlife, bring enough water, a torch and your mobile phone, as well as small first aid kit with anti-histamine in it. Always let someone know where you are.

Some of our favourites include:

Bukit Saeh, which offers great views of the city and has a number of trails.

Bukit Shahbandar, a favourite running spot for many Loan Service personnel and families.

Bukit Patoi just over the Temburong bridge, a beautiful drive followed by a 6km hike, with views stretching into Malaysia.
