Pay

Prior to your arrival or on application at your request, you will receive a basic breakdown of pay and allowances for your assignment in Brunei, however, you are also responsible for understanding effects of LOA on your own personal family dynamic, PStat Cat 2, and Service Couples (inc Civil Service) should read the relevant JSP 752 chapters to ensure understanding and discuss with their current unit HR.

Prior to your arrival SA LST will provide you with all JPA related forms that require completion, to enable all allowances to commence on the day you arrive in Brunei. As our administration is conducted by the Global Administration Unit, the admin cannot be completed via the Digital Hub Apps such as My Admin.

Split Pay: You may request to split your pay between your UK account and your local Brunei account. You must be in country to open a local bank account this does take up to 3 months. Once this is open you may request to split your pay with the Finance Assistant. Please ensure you have access to cash for your first few months, there is an ATM on Berakas Kem but you may be charged a fee for overseas transacitons.

Advance: You may request an advance of up to 4 months net pay, available 2 months before departure. This will be recovered over 24 months.

Tax / National Insurance: During your assignment you will continue to pay Income Tax and NICs. These are deducted from your salary. LOA is a non-taxable allowance, however, Overseas Loan Service Allowance OLSA is taxable.

Continuity of Education Allowance: Please see JSP 752 for guidance. You will continue to claim on JPA, ensure all prerequisites are in place prior to your assignment.

Maternity Pay: Please see JSP 754 for MOD policy. Our host nation does not recognise this as such it may result in an early posting back to the UK.

Allowances

Overseas Loan Service Allowance (OLSA): Please refer to JSP 752 for current OLSA rates. Brunei is currently Level 6.

Local Overseas Allowance (LOA): Please refer to JSP 752 and read in conjunction with the chapter on overseas Private Vehicle and Respite provision. Service Couples must ensure they understand the impact on their allowances in relation to LOA.

Longer Separation Allowance:

  • Personnel serving Married Unaccompanied VOLSEP (without PACCC letter) will receive LSA level 1 for the duration of their assignment (less leave with partner).

  • Personnel who have secured PACCC agreement may receive LSA INVOLSEP which is paid at their current accumulated LSA level.

  • Personnel serving on temporary duty where return travel to their Brunei quarter is not possible are entitled to LSA as per current UK Service regulations.

Travel and Subsistence: All reasonable travel expenses for the move to Brunei will be reimbursed. Please see Arrivals info for details and restrictions. Whilst in Brunei, Loan Service Personnel who travel on duty will be paid an allowance in accordance with local rules.

Accommodation and Utility Charges

Accommodation Charges: In accordance with the Loan Service MOU, the Government of Brunei provides free accommodation.

Water: The Government of Brunei provides free water.

Telephone Line: Rental of your telephone line may be claimed annually up to $120.00.

Electricity: You will pay for any electricity used over 2500 Kw/h per month for Lt. Cols and above or 1800 Kw/h per month for Majors and below. You will be reimbursed for your maximum allowance, (2500 Kw/h - $168 / 1800 Kw/h - $102) via a local claim mechanism.

LOCAL OVERSEAS ALLOWANCE (LOA) Daily rate monthly via Salary, non taxable)):

  • Single Married Unaccompanied - £301.00 per month

  • Married Accompanied +1 child - £650.00 per month

  • Married Accompanied +2 £670.00 per month

OVERSEAS PRIVATE VEHICLE PROVISION (OPVP) Flat Rate paid via JPA Expenses, available on arrival and departure:

  • £1093.00

2ND VEHCILE PROVISION (Daily rate monthly via Salary, non taxable):

  • £100.00 per month

GET YOU HOME OVERSEAS (Annual entitlement (full 12 month periods only), per person, via JPA Expenses):

  • £1374.00 (as at 1 Jun 26, further rate changes take place 1 Oct, 1 Feb 1 Jun annually)

RESPITE (Annual entitlement, per person per night, up to 7 nights, via JPA Expenses):

  • £96.00 per person per night

  • Example Family of 4 on a 7 day break will receive £2688.00

SULTANS PAY (Paid monthly into Bruneian Bank Account only in arrears):

  • CSGT - CAPT/FLT LT - $60.00

  • MAJ/LT CDR/SQN LDR - LT COL/CDR - $120.00

FIXED MILEAGE ALLOWANCE (SIMILAR TO HDT UK) (Paid monthly into Bruneian Bank Account automatically):

  • $100 per month capped

MOTOR MILAGE ALLOWANCE(To contribute towards school runs, paid via local claims process in arrears):

  • $200 per month capped

SCHOOL FEES (Paid via direct invoicing School to Finance Team in Ministry of Defence Brunei):

Children over the age of 3 years will have tuitition paid to the amount of $12,800 - $16,800 per semester.

  • Single Married Unaccompanied - £301.00 per month

  • Married Accompanied +1 child - £650.00 per month

  • Married Accompanied +2 £670.00 per month

SCHOOL STATIONARY, TEXT BOOKS AND CHROMEBOOK LEASE (Paid via Local Claim process):
