Experiences and Tours

This section covers some of the experiences you can have here in Brunei. It is not meant as a catch all, just a few highlights of what’s available. Bruneians are very friendly and hospitable, if you ask around, you will find plenty of experiences that are not online.

Kommunihub

Kommunihub is a one stop shop for many of the experiences you may wish to have during your posting to Brunei. They work with diverse groups across Brunei, including the indigenous peoples such as the Dusun and Iban.

The company is flexible enough to tailor an experience to your group’s needs or to offer a more structured itinerary if requested.

Members of Loan Service have made their own parangs, had traditional cooking challenges, learned how to blow a blowpipe and how to survive in the jungle. You are strongly encouraged to have a look at the Kommunihub website to see what your first adventure will be!

Freme Rainforest Lodge

Freme is a travel agency offering incoming holidaymakers tours of Bandar and Brunei. They also run holidays for Bruneians to go overseas. The jewel in their crown though is their Rainforest Lodge where you can do various activities either as daytrip or while staying overnight in the jungle. They often offer significant discounts for local residents.

You will find cooking classes, canopy walks, jungle excursions, rafting and many other fun options for your family at the Freme website. There are other providers of accommodation and trips into Ulu Temburong National Park. Have a look at Sumbiling Eco Village and Trandie.

Proboscis Monkeys

A popular trip out is to take a boat ride on the Brunei River to find proboscis monkeys which can only be found on Borneo. You can also see other wildlife on the tour such as crocodiles, fireflies, macaques, water monitors, hogs and various types of eagles and birds. You will pass the world's largest water village, Kampong Ayer, and the Sultan’s Palace at Istana Nurul Iman to get to the mangrove forest where the proboscis monkey lives.

There are plenty of providers for this trip but many Loan Service members support one local family who run a boat out their home in the water village. Ask a current Loan Service member for their number to reserve a tour.
