Dental Care

Routine Dental Care

Routine dental care for LSP and their families is provided by RBAF Dental Officers (a mix of both British and UK-trained Local Officers) to a standard broadly equivalent to that in the UK. LSP and their families should endeavour to arrive in Brunei with all dental treatment completed, bringing with them any details of previous or ongoing treatment. They should register with their nearest military dental centre on arrival.

Reach back facilities are provided by DPHC Overseas Dental.

Orthodontic Treatment

Volunteers for LS who have children either undergoing or about to start active orthodontic treatment (that is either wearing a removable ‘brace’ or ‘train tracks’) should contact the Chief Dental Officer (via SA LS) in the first instance for advice before coming to Brunei due to a very long waiting list and a national shortage of specialists.

___

Boarding School Children

Boarding school and other non-resident children will be able to receive routine dental care whilst in Brunei, but not orthodontic treatment. Parents should arrange to book their children in for a check-up at the start of the school holiday visit so that any routine treatment can be scheduled whilst they are in country.

Oral Surgery

There is a good oral-surgery department at the major RIPAS hospital. However, LSP and their families with problems requiring treatment (such as impacted wisdom teeth) are strongly advised to have this carried out before they leave the United Kingdom or Europe.

Dental Health

A wide range of oral health-care products are available in supermarkets in Brunei, including most familiar leading brands. It can be difficult to purchase toothbrush heads for electrical toothbrushes and interdental brushes locally, however, these are available via online stores (e.g Amazon). The municipal water supply and commercially available bottled drinking water are not fluoridated.
